Civet
Civet – Animalic Fixative Note for Deep, Sensual Perfume Bases
Civet absolute is one of the oldest and most prized animalic materials in perfumery, sourced from the perineal gland secretions of the African civet cat (Civettictis civetta). Known chemically by its primary active component civetone (9-cycloheptadecen-1-one), civet absolute delivers an intense, raw, fecal-animalic odor at full concentration that transforms into a warm, diffusive, and deeply sensual musk when properly diluted in alcohol or carrier. It has been a cornerstone ingredient in classical French perfumery and South Asian attar traditions for centuries, contributing unmatched tenacity, warmth, and animalic depth to oriental, chypre, floral oriental, and ambery compositions. Civet absolute blends beautifully with rose, oud, sandalwood, ambergris, and floral absolutes to create signature base structures. Due to IFRA sensitization restrictions, it must be used at controlled levels in finished products. Rabibazaar supplies cosmetic and perfumery grade civet absolute to DIY perfumers, attar formulators, and professional fragrance developers across Pakistan.
