Stearic Acid
Stearic Acid – Versatile Fatty Acid for Creams, Soaps & Cosmetics
Stearic Acid (INCI: Stearic Acid; CAS 57-11-4) is a saturated C-18 long-chain fatty acid naturally present in shea butter, cocoa butter, palm oil, and animal fats. It is one of the most widely used cosmetic raw materials in the world, functioning as an emulsifier, co-emulsifier, thickening agent, and emollient across creams, lotions, balms, and soap formulations. In cold process and hot process soap making, stearic acid produces hard, dense bars with creamy and stable lather. As a structuring agent, it is indispensable in body butters, lotion bars, stick formats, and classical vanishing creams. When neutralized with triethanolamine or sodium hydroxide, it forms an in-situ soap emulsifier that stabilizes oil-in-water emulsions and delivers the characteristic smooth, pearlescent finish of professional cream bases. Cosmetic-grade stearic acid is available in both vegetable-derived and animal-derived forms, with plant-based grades suitable for vegan and halal formulations. Recommended use levels range from 1% to 25% depending on the desired texture and application. Rabibazaar supplies cosmetic-grade Stearic Acid suited for DIY beauty crafters, soap makers, professional formulators, and cosmetic manufacturers across Pakistan.
